Towny servers are the long-form chess of Minecraft multiplayer. Towns grow over weeks. Nations rise and fall. Economy, diplomacy and warfare matter more than raw PvP skill.
Look for servers with an active map (Dynmap link in tags), regular war events, and an economy that doesn't reset every season.
A land management system where players create towns, claim land chunks for protection, collect taxes from residents, and form nations with allied towns. It turns a survival server into a persistent political world.
Earn enough in-game currency to buy a town plot, then use the /town new command to found your town and claim your first chunk. Recruit residents to grow your income and expand your claim radius.
Most Towny servers protect claimed land from griefing and PvP by default. Some run war systems where nations can declare war and attack rival territory during specific time windows.
You can start alone but the gamemode is fundamentally multiplayer. The more residents your town has the stronger it becomes. Many solo players join an established town first before founding their own.
